Factory Records, Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Courteeners, Elbow – Manchester is renowned for its music scene, and we’re glad to say that it’s alive and kicking.
With numerous music venues dotted around the city, such as the Academy on Oxford Road, the O2 Apollo Manchester, and the newly reopened Manchester arena there is a wealth of musical talent playing in Manchester over the next few months.
We’ve picked our four not to miss gigs coming up in the next year in Manchester.
SHED SEVEN – Manchester Academy. Friday, 22 Dec 2017.
We couldn’t make this list without harking back to Manchester’s golden era of the 1990s…
Originally formed in York, Shed Seven are an alternative rock band and one of the most influential bands in the brit-pop movement that saw Oasis and Blur shoot to global fame.
Although they did not quite make it on the global stage to the extent of Oasis, they were regularly in the charts, and their iconic song, “Going for Gold” has come to encapsulate that period.
After touring for some time, the band are back with their first album in nearly a decade. Get down to the Manchester Academy for a not to be missed Christmas gig.
If you’re in town for the holidays and want to catch the Shed 7 gig the best place to stay is close to the universities. There are a lot of options when it comes to an Oxford road hotel, but we advise to stay further down Oxford Road to be closer to the venue. Tickets
Liam Gallagher – Emirates Old Trafford. August 18, 2018.
After his first debut album rocketed to the top of the charts earlier this year, Liam Gallagher announced selected dates. He’s already sold out Finsbury Park, and has just announce a huge homecoming concert at the Emirates old Trafford, supported by very special guests.
It’s needless to say that these tickets and Old Trafford hotels will sell like hot cakes, so you better hurry! Tickets
Foo Fighters – Etihad Stadium, June 19, 2019.
The Foo Fighters are one of the biggest bands in the world. Released in December, their ninth studio album, “concrete and gold” hit number one in the album chart in the US, UK and Australia – achieving a gold record in the process.
Tickets to the gigs at the Etihad stadium have sold out, but there are tickets available for resale on selected sites.
If you do manage to bag one of the golden tickets, you’ll need to get creative when looking for somewhere to stay. Most of the Manchester city centre hotels will be very busy, so it may be worth looking for a Hotel near Manchester University.
Sam Smith – Manchester Arena, 27 March 2018.
Sam Smith announced a UK tour after he released his hotly anticipated second album, “The Thrill of it all”. The Grammy award winner will play a string of shows, including Manchester Arena on March 27th.
Book early to bag tickets to the soulful singer’s Manchester dates here and be sure to book a central Manchester hotel early to avoid disappointment.
That’s our pick of upcoming gigs for the next couple of months, if you have anything to add, or you’d like more information on the gigs or hotels around Manchester get in touch with our team on Twitter or Facebook.
